The Narnia series is a classic. In fact, another Narnia movie is set to hit theaters in early 2027. While a lot of people know the classic story of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, that’s where their knowledge of the series ends. But the book series has so many great stories!
My favorite as a kid was The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. It’s an adventure story that leaves the shores of Narnia in search of seven exiled lords. What’s so interesting about it is that it’s not one continuous narrative, but several stories strung together by a single voyage. They go from island to island finding new adventures and problems to solve. It’s a high-seas fantasy version of the literary “Road Narrative.” Other stories that fit this genre are The Odyssey and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn… and tomorrow’s passage in Acts.
This Sunday we’re going to get our own biblical version of the road narrative as we follow the adventures of Paul and Barnabas on their first missionary journey. We’ll encounter sorcery, conflict, and danger as they seek to take the gospel to new places.
This week’s sermon will look a little different than most, but I think it’s going to be a lot of fun. And besides, it’s good to switch it up occasionally.
Join us tomorrow for Beyond the Door of Faith, an epic high-seas adventure (That really happened) through Acts 13–14!
