My Proudest Moment

What are you most proud of in your life? I thought about that today. I’ve won a few awards and done some cool things, but nothing compares to the moment Allie graduated from college.

Here’s the scenario: We were married when I was a senior in college and Allie was a junior. Seven months into our marriage, we found out she was pregnant. While we were excited (In hindsight can clearly see God’s hand in it) it definitely wasn’t part of our plan. We thought we’d both graduate, work a few years, and then have a baby. But God had other plans.

After finishing her junior year, Allie paused college for a year to care for Maggie. When she returned, sometimes she took Maggie to class with her. Other times, I worked from home and kept Maggie occupied with Madagascar (she loved that movie!). Then came student teaching. No big deal… except we had only one car and a moped. Yes, a moped. In winter. Over a bridge that looked like something Tom Cruise would stunt off in Mission Impossible.

To say that was a hard season is an understatement. But when Allie walked across that stage and received her diploma, I was overwhelmed. I don’t cry much, but I was bawling. I had never been prouder.

After 10 weeks, we’ve come to the end of Galatians. And Paul ends with a surprising statement: “I will boast in nothing… except the cross.” That’s bold and deep. I’ll unpack it more tomorrow, but here’s the gist: Every good thing in our lives flows from the cross. Even Allie’s graduation? Somehow, yes. The cross is the only true foundation for anything we could ever boast in.

Join us tomorrow as we explore this powerful and meaningful truth together.
