Do you struggle to faithfully live out the Christian life? It may be because you’ve forgotten something.
A few decades ago, passwords were for spies and shady people. Now? We all have hundreds. From Netflix to Boston Water and Sewer. Each one has its own rules: capital letters, numbers, special characters, no repeats. It’s confusing and easy to forget.
You know the feeling. You try to log in, type what you think is your password, only to discover that was for YouTube and not YouTube TV. So you reset it… and realize you knew your password all along because what you thought was your new password was your old password and they won’t let you reuse your old password. Do I sound like a crazy person? I feel like a crazy person.
So, we find ways to remember. Maybe you have one password for everything (not safe, fyi), a handwritten journal you stick in a drawer, or a digital password manager. However you do it, one thing’s clear: if you want to function in our modern society, you must remember your passwords.
This week, we’re looking at the line in the Apostles’ Creed about the Holy Spirit. Some theologians call Him the “Forgotten God.” Why? Because many Christians theologically believe in the Trinity, but functionally live as if there are only two persons. The one we forget? The Holy Spirit.
But we can’t forget Him. The Holy Spirit is the key… the “password,” if you will, to truly living the Christian life. Without Him, we’re locked out of the power, peace, and presence God wants for us. The Christian life without the Spirit is like trying to type with no hands. It’s weak, frustrating, and lifeless.
Join us this Sunday as we rediscover the Holy Spirit that Jesus sent to live in us, guide us, and empower us. It’s time to remember the forgotten password of the Christian life.
