The Crisis of Palm Sunday

What do you think about when you hear the word crisis?

Most of the time, we use "crisis" to refer to a struggle or unfortunate event. You might think of a financial crisis, picture someone experiencing a mid-life crisis, or consider the numerous humanitarian crises occurring around the world. Perhaps you are facing a very real crisis in your own family or workplace.

However, "struggle" isn't the most accurate synonym for "crisis." A more better term would be "decision" or "turning point."

When we face a financial crisis, it’s a turning point that demands new decisions. When someone goes through a mid-life crisis, they might buy a sports car, divorce their spouse, go back to school, or quit their job, not just because they’re struggling, but because they’re trying to choose a different path in life. A crisis is about choice.

Tomorrow is Palm Sunday, the first day of Holy Week. It marks the moment Jesus entered Jerusalem and set in motion the events that would lead to the crucifixion. Palm Sunday was a day of crisis for everyone present. Each group: the disciples, the crowds, and the religious leaders had a choice. They had to decide who Jesus really was.

And that same crisis faces us today. We all must decide: Who is Jesus?

Join us tomorrow for a special Palm Sunday service as we celebrate King Jesus!
