There is something really satisfying about seeing someone get what they deserve. It's even better if the just deserts are somewhat comical. I have compiled some of my favorite fictional moments of people receiving their deserved consequences.
Dennis Nedry in Jurassic Park
Jurassic Park is one of my all-time favorite movies. I watched it very young and it was forever etched into my memory. It's a great movie, but there is one very unlikable character named Dennis Nedry.
Dennis Nedry is the scummy computer programmer for the island. In his efforts to make bank by smuggling dinosaur embryos off the island, he contributes to the breakdown of failsafes that result in the escape of the dangerous dinosaurs. It is his greed that precipitates the island's downfall. But Dennis gets his.
In an attempt to escape Jurassic Park before it is too late, Dennis steals a jeep and races for the final boat off the island. But his escape is thwarted when he wrecks the jeep and encounters, what appears to be, a cute little dinosaur. Mind you, this was one of the dinos that escaped from his actions. Its cuteness is short-lived, as the Dilophosaurus eats Dennis for dinner. Justice is served and the audience cheers.

Syndrome in The Incredibles
Early in the movie, Edna, the eccentric superhero fashion designer, makes a point that none of her designs have capes. Why? because capes are dangerous. So she designs the Incredibles super suits without capes.
But there is one person in the movie with a cape: The supervillain Syndrome. Because he feels betrayed by Mr. Incredible, Syndrome plans to destroy all superheroes. At the end of the movie, as Syndrome is trying to escape he is stopped when his cape gets caught in the turbine engine of his jet. Turns out, capes really are dangerous. Pride, meet fall.
Tomorrow we're going to see the ironic demise of David's treacherous son Absalom. His end actually has a lot in common with the two villains above. Similarly, it will be his pride that causes his death. Yet, in the midst of this painful story, we will learn where David finds peace in the midst of all this chaos.
